The short answer
How do I start a trucking company in Florida?
Establish the business information, determine the carrier registration requirements and review commercial vehicle credentials through Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. For planned interstate operations, assess apportioned registration and fuel-tax needs separately from federal authority.
Best Truck Permits can help organize the filing work and identify missing information. Tell us what is already complete before selecting a service. You do not need to know every permit name to begin, and a review should not turn into an automatic order for every available filing.

Commercial registration and Southeast route planning
01Put Florida vehicle documents in one place
FLHSMV publishes IRP forms and renewal instructions for commercial carriers. Before asking for an application to be prepared, gather the current title or lease information, VIN, registration, weight details and legal business name. Flag missing records early, especially when buying a used truck or leasing equipment. A carrier application can be moving forward while vehicle paperwork remains incomplete; tracking both prevents an issued business identifier from being mistaken for a fully road-ready truck.

Suppose your first regular work runs between Jacksonville and Georgia. Describe whether you haul your own products or freight for customers, how the truck is registered and who is responsible for the operation. Those details give the reviewer a useful starting point for authority and vehicle-credential questions. If your business is initially local, still disclose interstate work you are actively planning. Changing the operating area later should trigger a fresh review rather than an assumption that the original setup covers it.
03Do not use "non-CDL" as a permit checklist
A seller may describe a box truck as non-CDL, but that description does not answer every company-registration question. Collect the manufacturer ratings, axle information, proposed loaded weight and any trailer details. Also identify what will be carried and where it will travel. Ask separate questions about the driver, the vehicle and the carrier. This approach is more reliable than purchasing equipment first and trying to fit the business around an incomplete label afterward.
04Prepare the office side before the first load
Choose an email address that the owner will retain and use a consistent business contact record. Set up folders for agency receipts, insurance communication, vehicle records and customer paperwork. Decide how drivers will return mileage and fuel information. If you plan seasonal or irregular work, explain that in the review instead of assuming that a quiet month ends account responsibilities. A registration service can help organize the starting point, but the business still needs someone responsible for ongoing records and notices.
What should you prepare before requesting help?
Start with a working file rather than a stack of applications. Missing information is easier to resolve when each item has an owner and a clear status. Do not upload Social Security numbers, passwords or payment-card information into an ordinary inquiry.
- Business identity: legal name, formation status, physical business address and existing identifiers. An LLC is a business-structure choice, not a universal requirement for every carrier.
- Operating plan: your own goods or customer freight, planned states, sample routes and any specialized cargo. Include the wider shipment context, not only the driver's local journey.
- Equipment: truck and trailer details, ownership or lease arrangement, VINs when available, axle information and weight ratings. Mark a proposed purchase as pending.
- Existing records: registrations, insurance contact and any outstanding agency notices. Keep originals and explain changes instead of silently replacing old information.
- People and timing: the owner or authorized contact, desired start date and who will maintain records after setup. A preferred launch date is not an agency approval deadline.
For federal decisions, use the USDOT eligibility guidance and current FMCSA registration instructions. Check BOC-3 filing requirements and UCR applicability separately. These are distinct questions, not interchangeable names for one registration.
Review my setup needsA practical Florida planning example
A Florida owner wants to buy a box truck for deliveries around Orlando and occasionally accept freight into Georgia. Before selecting a package, provide the vehicle ratings and trailer plans, the source and destination of the freight, and whether the company already exists. The team can identify which questions need a federal review and which belong to vehicle registration. Do not treat this example as a ruling that every box truck needs the same authority or plate arrangement.
Illustrative scenario, not a customer testimonial. The correct filings depend on the full facts of your operation.
What will registration assistance cost?
There is no single all-inclusive cost for every trucking company. Compare the current service packages, then separate the assistance fee from agency charges, insurance, vehicle costs and any outside services. Ask which filings are included, what information you must provide, and what happens if an agency requests corrections. Do not assume every listed service applies to your state or equipment.
From your request to the next step
- Complete the short registration form with your business status, equipment and intended work.
- Review the package descriptions and prices before selecting. Existing businesses can request specific support instead of starting again.
- Submit your information. Single-package requests proceed to checkout; multiple-package requests go to representative review so the scope and payment arrangements can be confirmed.
- Work through the supporting documents and outside dependencies. Payment or submission does not authorize operations, and approval timing is not guaranteed.

Florida registration questions
Can I start a Florida trucking company with one box truck?
You can plan a one-truck business. Required filings depend on the equipment and operation, not fleet size alone. Share weight ratings and routes before selecting services.
Does Florida company formation include truck plates?
No. Business formation and vehicle credentials are separate workstreams. Ask for the service scope to identify which applications are included and which charges remain separate.
Can you review a Florida business that already has an MC number?
Yes. Provide the existing record and describe the missing service. An issued number does not tell the team whether you need activation follow-up, vehicle credentials, renewals or another type of help.
